Healthcare Programs That Are Waitlisted

What is a waitlisted program?

A waitlisted program is a program that has more qualified students than spaces available because it is a high demand program.

Why are there waitlisted programs?

At QCC we manage admission to high demand programs using a criteria-based method.  Once a student meets the criteria for their desired program we give them the next available seat in that program. If there is still room in the upcoming semester they are accepted directly to their program.  If the upcoming semester is already full we give them the next available seat in the semester that is filling at that time.

Which healthcare programs may be waitlisted?

I want to apply. How do I begin?

  • Apply to either General Studies Healthcare or General Studies Pre-Nursing Option if you need to complete courses for the program admission requirements
  • Provide high school transcript to QCC Admissions
  • Provide a transcript of prior college work to QCC Admissions (if applicable)
  • Provide an official transcript to the Registrar to be evaluated for transfer credit (if applicable)
  • Take College Placement Test (if applicable)
  • Meet with an Academic Advisor to review Program Admission Requirements and make an academic plan
  • Attend Health Career Information Session
  • Take Test of Essential Academic Skills (if required by the program)
  • Complete additional program-specific requirements

What happens once I am academically qualified for my program?

  • Upon completion of the program admissions requirements meet with an Academic Advisor to complete a Major Change.  This Major Change triggers an evaluation of your application to determine satisfactory completion of the program admissions requirements.
  • If you meet the program admissions requirements, you will be mailed a waitlist letter with a start term date (example: FALL 2021.) If you are not qualified, therefore denied acceptance to the program, you will be accepted to the college in General Studies Health Care or General Studies Pre-nursing.  You will be directed to meet with Academic Advising to make an academic plan to become qualified for your desired program.
  • You can only be on a waitlist for one waitlisted program

How can I move up on the waitlist?

  • If an earlier space becomes available, you will be notified by the admissions office based on the date you qualified for your program.

Health Career Info Sessions

What is a Health Careers Info session?

  • The Health Careers Info session is a two-hour session including career and academic program information, admission program requirements, waitlists, and completion of the healthcare program intent form.
  •  Attending a Health Careers Info session is an admission program requirement for many of the QCC healthcare programs.  Check the program admissions requirements for your intended program.

How do I register for a Health Careers Info session?

The dates for the Health Info Session are sent to you in a letter and also listed on the Q.  If you know your Q login information you can register for a Health Career Info Session by logging in and clicking on a link.

What if I want to register for a Health Careers Info session but do not have the letter?

If you have a student id number, you can contact the Admissions Office to request the available dates for the Health Careers Info session. Link(s) of the date(s) will be emailed to you so you can choose the Health Careers Info session that works best with your schedule.

What do I need to bring to the Health Careers Info Session?

Bring your student ID number. Arrive 15 minutes early. If you are more than 15 minutes late you will need to reschedule

TEAS Test

What is the TEAS?

The TEAS is the Test for Essential Academic skills and is a program admissions requirement for many of the QCC Healthcare programs.  The TEAS tests your skill level for English, Science, Math and Writing.

When should I take the TEAS?

You are encouraged to take the TEAS when you feel you are prepared for all four subject areas (English, Reading, Math and Science).  If you need to take a science or math course to qualify for admission to a healthcare program then it is recommended that you complete the course before taking the TEAS.

How many times can I take the TEAS?

For most programs, you are only allowed to take the TEAS twice within five years of applying to the program.  Exceptions to this general guidance are considered on a case by case basis. If you have questions regarding your score please consult with Academic Advising.
