Children's School

Instructor with children learning how to use tools

After carefully reviewing the new Massachusetts State regulations on childcare centers and following the advice of health officials, the College has made the difficult decision to not have children return to the Children’s School for the remainder of 2020. This is consistent with our decision to continue remote operations for the college in the fall.

These are challenging and disruptive times for all of us and this decision was not taken lightly. While we understand that this decision may place a burden on parents, keeping our QCC family safe is something that we feel very strongly about, and this includes the youngest members of our community

Welcome to the Quinsigamond Community College's Children's School

The Children's School provides full day programs open to students enrolled in the College with children ages two year and nine months to five years, as well as members of the college and community. Additionally, the School serves as a training site for students in the Early Childhood Education program.

All groups are mixed ages of 2 years and 9 months to 5 years of age.

The Children's School focuses on providing the following to each of its children:

  • A rich learning environment for young children.
  • Quality child care for children of students, faculty, staff, and the community.
  • A program of supervised student participation and field placement experience for Early Childhood Associate Degree students.
  • Informational meetings for parents/guardians.
  • A demonstration preschool setting for observational purposes for our students, perspective students, parents/guardians, and other community members.

Quinsigamond Community College Children’s School shall not discriminate in providing services to children and their families on the basis of race, religion, cultural heritage, political beliefs, national origin, marital status, sexual orientation or disability.

QRIS-Level 4 Granted for Quinsigamond Children’s School First center in the state granted a Level 4!

The Massachusetts Quality Rating & Improvement System (QRIS) is a method to assess, improve, and communicate the level of quality in early care & education and after-school settings ( Stair Steps to Quality , Anne W. Mitchell (2005); United Way Success by Six, p. 4). The MA QRIS offers guidance to professionals in early education and care and out of school time settings on a path towards quality, recognizing that higher expectations of programs must be matched with increased supports that include a better-articulated career ladder, financial incentives, and professional development and technical assistance, which are grounded in the science of child development.

QRIS is similar to other consumer rating systems, in that they "rate" goods or services to provide customers with a better understanding about the quality of that item. The Quinsigamond Children’s School has been granted a Level 4, the highest level at this time and was the first in the state.  QRIS reviews the following 5 categories for the study: 1. Curriculum and Learning, 2. Safe, Healthy Indoor and Outdoor Environments, 3. Workforce Qualification and Professional Development, 4. Family and Community engagement and 5. Leadership, Management and Administration.
