Reserve/Intermittent Police Academy

Basic Reserve/Intermittent training courses offered by authorized police training organizations are entry-level training programs approved by the Municipal Police Training Committee with the prescribed course of study that a reserve/intermittent police officer must satisfactorily complete prior to exercising police powers in Massachusetts. 

This course is a minimum of 372.5 hours administered by regional police training organizations at various locations throughout the Commonwealth. When carrying a weapon, an additional 20 hours of MPTC-certified firearms training is required.

Training Schedule

Monday, Wednesday, & Thursday
6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.

Every other Saturday
9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Cost & Fees

$2,500 per student officer
Additional fee for equipment: ~$350

Application Submission

Please have all the following when turning in application packet:

  • Student officer information form
  • Course application including signed 
  • waiver
  • CORI/SORI form
  • Copy of picture ID
  • Copy of high school diploma
  • Completed registration form
