Technology in the Classroom Conference

The Center for Academic Excellence Events Planning committee held the 8th Annual Using Technology in the Classroom Conference on Wednesday, January 8th. This year’s conference was the largest yet with 65 attendees and 10 different workshops on such topics as ThinkingStorm (QCC’s new online tutoring platform), Microsoft at QCC, Turning PowerPoints into Videos, and Open Educational Resources (OER). This year’s staff and faculty presenters were Gaelan Lee Benway, Sheri Boisseau, Maureen Giacobbe, Déborah Gonzalez, Teresa Varriale Gonzalez, Sandra Hinds, Jason Kurland, Bob Knox, Monica McMullan, Tenisha Mincey, Denise Minor, Anuj Nautiyal, Kirsten Patey, Brenda Safford, Michael Stevenson, and Martha Upton. After the morning workshops, attendees enjoyed lunch and a keynote presentation on Spacing and Retrieval Practice by Megan Sumeracki, co-founder of The Learning Scientists and Assistant Professor pf Psychology at Rhode Island College. The committee is already planning next year’s conference, which is scheduled for Wednesday, January 6, 2021 (snow date: Thursday, January 7, 2021).
